DUNE REBOOT GETS A WRITER

The spice must flow, and it will do so with the help of two great movie makers.  The person at the helm of the ship, wearing both the producer and director hats will be Denis Villeneuve.  If you don’t recognize him by the name,  you most likely have heard of Sicario, Arrival and Prisoners, all of which were directed by him.  If you haven’t watch these movies,  you have to,  they are amazing.

Now Legendary has added another great name to the creative line up of this movie.  Eric Roth,  has been added as the writer.  Again,  you may not recognize his name,  but you definitely know of the movies he has penned.  Among his writing credits you will find Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Munich, Ali, The Good Shepherd and The Insider. He has 3 academy award nominations and 1 win (for Forrest Gump), so this movie could not be in better hands.

There was already a movie made from this book in 1984, as well as a TV series that was sort of a follow up to the movie.  The original movie was directed by David Lynch.  That movie was very 80’s Sci-Fi and it was great.  Like many other great movies (Blade Runner, The Shawshank Redemption, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski etc) it failed at the box office,  but gained a huge cult classic status as people started picking it up from the shelves. Now it will make a comeback, and I can only expect great things for it with the people it has behind it.  I will be eagerly waiting to hear news about casting and release dates.

What do you think of the addition of Eric Roth as writer for the Dune movie? Have you seen the original and if so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments below.
